Women of Folkways

March 8, 2025 @ 8:00 pm 10:30 pm MST

Show starts at 8pm, Doors open at 7:15pm

A co-presentation with Winter Roots Roundup (U of A Sound Studies Institute), the Women of Folkways concert is a celebration by women of women in the Folkways Records catalogue. The artists will present a collaborative singer-in-the-round concert where they will explore and celebrate the music of Folkways by presenting new interpretations of traditional folk songs as well as their original songs to expand the tradition.\

The artists for this performance are:

Dale Ladouceur

Dale Ladouceur is a musician and leatherworker whose passion finds its way into her work. She is inspired by the natural world, weather systems, obscure childhood references, powerful grooves and courageous acts and melds these influences into her compositions.

Dale has performed across Canada, the US and Europe. Her work as a journalist has been published internationally and her idealism is global.

Natasha Sayer

Natasha Sayer is a Métis songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and music educator who has been teaching and performing in and around Calgary for over 30 years. Natasha has released many recordings with her two long lived bands, harmony driven folk trio Magnolia Buckskin and genre-shifting, eclectic The Fragments. Creating and recording two solo records (children’s album Big Bad Bantam Rooster and heartbreaking Notes to Self), helped Natasha navigate through some tough times and affirmed her long standing belief that music is medicine. Natasha is the proud Mom of two creative young adults and enjoys travelling, motorcycling, lake swimming and most recently pickleball.

Phyllis Sinclair

Phyllis Sinclair, a Canadian Folk Music Award-nominated singer-songwriter, has captivated audiences worldwide with her soul-stirring music that beautifully weaves Indigenous realities with spirituality, astronomy, and mythology. March 1, 2024 welcomed the release of Phyllis Sinclair’s latest album, Kiyam (kee-yam), meaning “Let it Be” in her Cree language.

Dana Wylie

Dana Wylie is a singer of rare gift and a crafter of deeply felt and sharply observed songs. Praised for being as dexterous with words as she is with her guitar, piano and remarkably powerful voice, she writes with equal parts craft and passion. Penguin Eggs magazine once called her the only artist about whom they have “felt comfortable comparing favourably to Joni Mitchell in the scope of her talent EVER.”
