SUMMARY:Martin Kerr - Sold Out
DESCRIPTION:Show starts at 8pm\, Doors open at 7:15pm \n\n\n\nSOLD OUT \n\n\n\nBritish/Canadian singer-songwriter Martin Kerr might be the only artist in the world to have played 400 live shows during the pandemic. When Covid-19 cancelled touring plans\, he launched Stay Home Street Concerts to bring music and joy to the people who needed it the most. From driveways\, balconies\, and front lawns\, every show finished with the whole street singing ‘You’re Amazing’\, his uplifting\, instantly singable hit\, which climbed to #4 on Spotify. His new album “Don’t Listen To Me” was recorded across North America\, in Vancouver\, Nashville and his adopted hometown of Edmonton. The songs are inspired by gratitude for real love\, the pain of loss\, and seeking hope and balance in turbulent times. The heart of these songs is intimate\, honest and poetic. Rooted in isolation\, yet longing for connection\, adventure and hope. In a few short years Martin has gone from busking on street corners to selling out major theatres\, playing festivals and landing his album in the Canadian Top 10. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMartin Kerr

SUMMARY:Women of Folkways
DESCRIPTION:Show starts at 8pm\, Doors open at 7:15pm \n\n\n\nA co-presentation with Winter Roots Roundup (U of A Sound Studies Institute)\, the Women of Folkways concert is a celebration by women of women in the Folkways Records catalogue. The artists will present a collaborative singer-in-the-round concert where they will explore and celebrate the music of Folkways by presenting new interpretations of traditional folk songs as well as their original songs to expand the tradition.\ \n\n\n\nThe artists for this performance are: \n\n\n\nDale Ladouceur \n\n\n\nDale Ladouceur is a musician and leatherworker whose passion finds its way into her work. She is inspired by the natural world\, weather systems\, obscure childhood references\, powerful grooves and courageous acts and melds these influences into her compositions. \n\n\n\nDale has performed across Canada\, the US and Europe. Her work as a journalist has been published internationally and her idealism is global. \n\n\n\nNatasha Sayer \n\n\n\nNatasha Sayer is a Métis songwriter\, multi-instrumentalist and music educator who has been teaching and performing in and around Calgary for over 30 years. Natasha has released many recordings with her two long lived bands\, harmony driven folk trio Magnolia Buckskin and genre-shifting\, eclectic The Fragments. Creating and recording two solo records (children’s album Big Bad Bantam Rooster and heartbreaking Notes to Self)\, helped Natasha navigate through some tough times and affirmed her long standing belief that music is medicine. Natasha is the proud Mom of two creative young adults and enjoys travelling\, motorcycling\, lake swimming and most recently pickleball. \n\n\n\nPhyllis Sinclair \n\n\n\nPhyllis Sinclair\, a Canadian Folk Music Award-nominated singer-songwriter\, has captivated audiences worldwide with her soul-stirring music that beautifully weaves Indigenous realities with spirituality\, astronomy\, and mythology. March 1\, 2024 welcomed the release of Phyllis Sinclair’s latest album\, Kiyam (kee-yam)\, meaning “Let it Be” in her Cree language. \n\n\n\nDana Wylie \n\n\n\nDana Wylie is a singer of rare gift and a crafter of deeply felt and sharply observed songs. Praised for being as dexterous with words as she is with her guitar\, piano and remarkably powerful voice\, she writes with equal parts craft and passion. Penguin Eggs magazine once called her the only artist about whom they have “felt comfortable comparing favourably to Joni Mitchell in the scope of her talent EVER.” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDale Ladouceur\n\n\n\nDana Wylie\n\n\n\nNatasha Sayer\n\n\n\nPhyllis Sinclair

Born and raised in Prince Edward Island\, Catherine’s songs reflect her deep connection to the land and the people that call it home. From heart-wrenching ballads to uplifting anthems\, her music has a universal appeal that speaks to the struggles\, triumphs\, and joys of life. SUMMARY:Big Little Lions
DESCRIPTION:Show starts at 8pm\, Doors open at 7:15pm \n\n\n\nBig Little Lions is an award winning duo\, born out of a collaboration that won them a JUNO Award in 2014. Since then they have been cranking out infectious folk pop songs that are jam-packed with emotion and tight harmonies that sound like the product of two people working side-by-side instead of living in different countries. Their recordings have garnered them awards and nominations including the CFMA Ensemble of the Year\, Independent Music Awards Americana Song of the Year and the John Lennon Songwriting Competition Song of the Year. The duo consists of Paul Otten and Helen Austin\, both hugely prolific songwriters – their music has been placed in hundreds of movie trailers\, ads and network TV shows. Their live show is quite the spectacle with Paul playing drums\, bass and keyboard all while singing lead vocals. Helen\, who is no slacker either\, sings\, plays guitar and foot percussion. They use every limb\, and then some\, to make two people sound like a full band. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBig Little Lions

SUMMARY:Rambler's Choir (Scott Cook\, Joe Nolan\, Scott Nolan\, Pamela Mae) – Sold Out
DESCRIPTION:Show starts at 8pm\, Doors open at 7:15pm \n\n\n\nSOLD OUT \n\n\n\nRamblers Choir is a kismet collaboration between Canadian songsmiths and veteran road dogs Scott Nolan\, Joe Nolan\, Scott Cook and Pamela Mae – four prairie voices bringing songs and stories to the mythical campfire. Begun on a whim as a one-off\, the synergy was too strong not to reconvene. \n\n\n\nScott Nolan is an acclaimed songwriter\, multi-instrumentalist\, producer\, poet and visual artist from Winnipeg whose songs have been covered by Hayes Carll\, Mary Gauthier\, Watermelon Slim\, and Corin Raymond among others. \n\n\n\nEdmonton’s Joe Nolan is a true workhorse\, virtuoso guitarist\, elusive poet\, and musical chameleon. Known for his scrappy solo shows and his arresting stage charm\, his songs are at times fragile and fractured\, yet winningly wistful. \n\n\n\nScott Cook has been touring steadily around the world since 2007\, distilling his experiences into plain-spoken\, uplifting songs. Nowadays he’s travelling with his old-timey sweetheart Pamela Mae on upright bass\, banjo and vocals. \n\n\n\nThese four musical voices blend into something scruffy yet sublime –– a true ramblers choir. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRambler’s Choir

SUMMARY:Grace Petrie
DESCRIPTION:Show starts at 8pm\, Doors open at 7:15pm \n\n\n\nIt’s been three years since Connectivity debuted at #1 on the UK download chart\, propelling the fiercely independent Grace Petrie to the main stages of major festivals and venues across Europe\, Australia and Canada\, mesmerizing audiences with the ferocity of her socially urgent lyricism and the barnstorming power of her live show. Now the songwriter is back – stronger\, older and a whole lot angrier than ever before with a new CD “Build Something Better”. Petrie is hailed as Britain’s most relevant political songwriter\, a “millennial’s Billy Bragg” (Huffington Post). In a world that seems to make less sense than ever\, these are songs made to both holler along to from the crowd and to tear up with on a lonely night train. A record for everyone whose broken heart beats for\, and whose boots stomp in time with\, the hope of a brighter tomorrow.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGrace Petrie

SUMMARY:Ken Stead + Beau Wheeler (double bill)
DESCRIPTION:Show starts at 8pm\, Doors open at 7:15pm \n\n\n\nKen Stead has a firm foothold in the Canadian roots community\, having graced the grassy stages and sessions of Edmonton Folk Fest\, Canmore Folk Fest\, and North Country Fair\, as well as rowdier venues like Main Stage Big Valley Jamboree\, the Calgary Stampede Coke Stage and Wild Mountain Festival. Whether playing solo\, or with his band\, Ken Stead makes every room feel like home. He is known for silencing a room to a whisper\, but is capable of starting an uproar. A generous demeanor\, a delicate wit\, and an empathetic understanding of audiences of all shapes\, his performances are as true and honest as the songs themselves. \n\n\n\nBeau Wheeler’s music pulls no punches as it shines a light on gender\, surviving cancer\, and the all too human experience of love in a way that turns the dark and sour stuff of life into something beautiful and hopeful. Beau’s songs remind us that ‘we’ve all been there’ and that no matter how low you are feeling – there’s hope. Pain and joy form equal parts of life’s equation. The essential magic of Beau’s work lies in this unflinching ability to fearlessly open up and bring a room full of strangers together to share and heal from the vulnerabilities that we all feel. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nKen Stead and Beau Wheeler

DESCRIPTION:Show starts at 8pm\, Doors open at 7:15pm \n\n\n\nAcclaimed roots songwriters John Wort Hannam and T. Buckley make up The Woodshed\, a modern folk duo based in Alberta. SUMMARY:Pharis & Jason Romero – SOLD OUT
DESCRIPTION:Show starts at 8pm\, Doors open at 7:15pm \n\n\n\nSOLD OUT \n\n\n\nPharis & Jason Romero are pure craftspeople and top-notch musicians. They’ve won four Juno awards (2023 JUNO for Best Trad Roots Album Tell ‘Em You Were Gold) and seven Canadian Folk Music Awards\, connecting with audiences through their music\, lifestyle\, and the sense of joy and ease that comes from this small-town renaissance couple. They live in the wilderness town of Horsefly\, British Columbia where they write songs\, learn old music\, and work as renowned banjo builders. Their songs seem to come from easy and forthright places about traveling and rural life\, but in their openness are deeply moving and give the listener space for a unique and personal experience. There’s time to become absorbed in Jason’s solo banjo meditations\, to move with the deep pulse of their guitar playing\, to reflect on life’s beauty\, and to let the music lift you into a state of well-being. They frequently bring out a desire to play banjo\, to sing with another person\, and to dig up the oldest\, scratchiest record you can find and write a song just like it. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPharis and Jason Romero

DESCRIPTION:Show starts at 8pm\, Doors open at 7:15pm \n\n\n\nJoe Newberry grew up in a family full of singers and dancers. He took up the guitar and banjo as a teenager and learned fiddle tunes from great Missouri fiddlers. April Verch grew up listening to her Dad’s country band play for dances in the Ottawa Valley. She started step dancing at age three and fiddling at age six. The two musicians became masters of their traditions and now tour the world with their respective bands and projects. DESCRIPTION:Show starts at 8pm\, Doors open at 7:15pm \n\n\n\nRoad-weary\, dusty and worn down from thousands of miles\, hundreds of shows a year\, from Canada to Denmark\, Germany and back\, Richard Inman is an authentic storytelling troubadour. Whether he’s playing at a festival or in a smoke filled back road bar in rural Saskatchewan\, Inman’s honesty has connected him to a devoted cult following and cemented his place as a Canadian songwriting giant. \n\n\n\nUnapologetically old-school country and armed with a husky\, baritone voice\, Zachary Lucky receives comparisons to songwriters such as Lightfoot and Kristofferson. SUMMARY:Old Man Luedecke
DESCRIPTION:Show starts at 8pm\, Doors open at 7pm \n\n\n\nOld Man Luedecke is the recording and performing name of Christopher Luedecke whom Vancouver Folk Festival described as “…a musical singularity to be savoured and shared.” Born and raised in Toronto\, Luedecke followed Thoreauvian and romantic notions to Canada’s Yukon\, where he fell in love and started composing folk songs with a Banjo. He’s a two time JUNO and multi East Coast Music award-winner\, and Polaris Prize nominee now residing in Chester\, Nova Scotia. Luedecke delights audiences with his heart-felt command of the stage. His inspired banjo playing and wry storytelling cut to the heart of the normal\, extraordinary experience itself. \n\n\n\n\n\nOld Man Luedecke
