SUMMARY:Pharis & Jason Romero – SOLD OUT
DESCRIPTION:Show starts at 8pm\, Doors open at 7:15pm \n\n\n\nSOLD OUT \n\n\n\nPharis & Jason Romero are pure craftspeople and top-notch musicians. They’ve won four Juno awards (2023 JUNO for Best Trad Roots Album Tell ‘Em You Were Gold) and seven Canadian Folk Music Awards\, connecting with audiences through their music\, lifestyle\, and the sense of joy and ease that comes from this small-town renaissance couple. They live in the wilderness town of Horsefly\, British Columbia where they write songs\, learn old music\, and work as renowned banjo builders. Their songs seem to come from easy and forthright places about traveling and rural life\, but in their openness are deeply moving and give the listener space for a unique and personal experience. There’s time to become absorbed in Jason’s solo banjo meditations\, to move with the deep pulse of their guitar playing\, to reflect on life’s beauty\, and to let the music lift you into a state of well-being. They frequently bring out a desire to play banjo\, to sing with another person\, and to dig up the oldest\, scratchiest record you can find and write a song just like it. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPharis and Jason Romero

A natural performer with an instinct for humour and storytelling\, Ben Sures writes songs about everything from imaginary rayguns to sandwiches prepared for him by his father when he was a child visiting on weekends. Her music career began with a traditional Celtic band\, and it wasn’t long before she struck out on her own performing solo in folk clubs and taverns and trying out her own originals. Laverty’s unique brand of folk music has led to television and film features\, and landed her performances with a diverse range of artists..  Since Eileen’s retirement from teaching a few years ago she has been able to fully focus on her music – and enjoy life a bit more! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBen Sures\n\n\n\nEileen Laverty

SUMMARY:Newberry & Verch
DESCRIPTION:Show starts at 8pm\, Doors open at 7:15pm \n\n\n\nJoe Newberry grew up in a family full of singers and dancers. He took up the guitar and banjo as a teenager and learned fiddle tunes from great Missouri fiddlers. April Verch grew up listening to her Dad’s country band play for dances in the Ottawa Valley. She started step dancing at age three and fiddling at age six. The two musicians became masters of their traditions and now tour the world with their respective bands and projects. Yet they never forget the roots of their music\, that connection to the people in the audience\, on the dance floor\, and to the community sparked by a good song. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNewberry & Verch

SUMMARY:Joshua Hyslop
DESCRIPTION:Show starts at 8pm\, Doors open at 7:15pm.This show was originally scheduled for January 27; it will now happen on January 13\, 2024. \n\n\n\n“Holding a guitar\, it’s my comfort blanket\,” says Joshua Hyslop\, the Vancouver-based folk-pop artist. SUMMARY:The Wardens - SOLD OUT
DESCRIPTION:Show starts at 8pm\, Doors open at 7:15pm \n\n\n\nSOLD OUT \n\n\n\nThe Wardens don’t just sing about the land\, they’re part of it. The Rocky Mountain-based band’s stories and songs rise from the very land they’ve protected as Canadian national park wardens. With haunting three-part harmonies and chilling tales\, the band’s mountain music – blending folk\, roots and western styles – reflects Canada’s protected wilderness areas. Celebrating the return of wild buffalo\, wrangling grizzly bears\, lonely nights on the packtrail and reflecting on an environment in crisis\, a performance by The Wardens has been dubbed “the quintessential mountain-culture concert experience.” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Wardens

SUMMARY:Richard Inman & Zachary Lucky
DESCRIPTION:Show starts at 8pm\, Doors open at 7:15pm \n\n\n\nRoad-weary\, dusty and worn down from thousands of miles\, hundreds of shows a year\, from Canada to Denmark\, Germany and back\, Richard Inman is an authentic storytelling troubadour. Whether he’s playing at a festival or in a smoke filled back road bar in rural Saskatchewan\, Inman’s honesty has connected him to a devoted cult following and cemented his place as a Canadian songwriting giant. \n\n\n\nUnapologetically old-school country and armed with a husky\, baritone voice\, Zachary Lucky receives comparisons to songwriters such as Lightfoot and Kristofferson. He sings of Canadian places and people as knowingly as he might Townes Van Zandt or the Rio Grande. His performances conjure universal feelings that have passed through our collective timelines. Already hailed as a master storyteller\, Zachary is becoming a legend in his own right and has safely reserved his spot at the table of Canadian roots royalty. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRichard Inman\n\n\n\nZachary Lucky

SUMMARY:Old Man Luedecke
DESCRIPTION:Show starts at 8pm\, Doors open at 7pm \n\n\n\nOld Man Luedecke is the recording and performing name of Christopher Luedecke whom Vancouver Folk Festival described as “…a musical singularity to be savoured and shared.” Born and raised in Toronto\, Luedecke followed Thoreauvian and romantic notions to Canada’s Yukon\, where he fell in love and started composing folk songs with a Banjo. He’s a two time JUNO and multi East Coast Music award-winner\, and Polaris Prize nominee now residing in Chester\, Nova Scotia. Luedecke delights audiences with his heart-felt command of the stage. SUMMARY:Braden Gates + Matt Patershuk
DESCRIPTION:Show starts at 8pm\, Doors open at 7pm \n\n\n\nBraden Gates is surprising; immediately engaging\, he quiets rooms with his prolific songwriting and musicianship. His latest album\, Kitchen Days won the 2022 Canadian Folk Music Award for Traditional Album of the Year. He is witty\, charming\, and unexpected. If you’ve never seen him\, you should\, and if you have\, you’ve likely already bought your ticket. \n\n\n\nMatt Patershuk is a singer and songwriter who values simplicity\, but also loves to incorporate the small details that bring a story to life and make it relatable. Though his songs aren’t devoid of metaphor\, you’ll not be left guessing about what the song is about when you’re done listening. He never lets a lack of experience or formal training get in his way. He applies the same ethic to his self-taught songwriting and music as he does to fixing a furnace\, installing a stock waterer\, building a jewelry box\, or taking a picture. He loves words as much as he does music. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nBraden Gates\n\n\n\nMatt Patershuk

SUMMARY:CANCELLED: Pharis & Jason Romero
DESCRIPTION:Due to a COVID infection in the Romero household\, this date has been cancelled. Refunds can be obtained through TixOnTheSquare – please contact them. Season ticket holders will be contacted directly. We aim to reschedule Pharis & Jason Romero for a date in the future – stay tuned. \n\n\n\nThey’re nice people who play folk music. One of them laughs a lot\, and one of them is a bit mysterious. They’ve played a lot of places\, won six CFMAs and three Junos\, and taught a lot of people. They have two great kids and a house in the woods. Pharis & Jason Romero have been quietly connecting with audiences since their first record release in 2011. They started out together playing mostly traditional music – banjo\, guitar\, and sometimes fiddle – in an early old-time trio. Over the years they’ve moved their original songwriting and nuanced singing into the forefront\, and audiences have embraced their intelligent songs\, the sounds of their instruments and their clear approach to being two people while singing like one. \n\n\n\n\n\nPharis and Jason Romero

SUMMARY:T. Buckley
DESCRIPTION:Show starts at 8pm\, Doors open at 7pm\n\n\n\nMarriage\, fatherhood\, and a solid music career could have engendered complacency; instead T. Buckley investigates these transformations from the older\, wiser position he now occupies. His 2018 album\, Miles We Put Behind\, was a collection of mature\, introspective songs\, interrogating what it means to be a husband\, father\, and most importantly\, a keen observer of the world around him. He’s followed that up with Frame by Frame\, a slideshow of songs shaped by his past\, and optimistic for the future. Buckley’s new approach to roots and country music has made him an inter-generational favourite. \n\n\n\n\n\nTickets on sale March 11 via Tix on the Square \n\n\n\nIf you purchased tickets for the originally scheduled January 29th show\, they will be accepted at the April 2nd show. Or\, you have until 5:00 p.m. on April 1 to request a refund from Tix on the Square. \n\n\n\nT. SUMMARY:Suzie Ungerleider + True Blue
DESCRIPTION:Show starts at 8pm\, Doors open at 7pm\n\n\n\nFormerly known as Oh Susanna\, Suzie Ungerleider has evolved from an artist who wrote melodies inspired by Americana\, to writing songs that allow her to look closely at who she was before she took on that persona. Suzie now realizes that the character who gave her the courage to climb onstage and reveal what is in her heart is no longer needed; she is now sharing the music that is inside of her and not that of an alter ego. Perhaps she is leaving the character behind\, but Suzie Ungerleider remains an exciting\, dark\, funny\, charming performer who weaves magic with the music that she makes. \n\n\n\nEmerging from the melting pot of Edmonton’s music scene\, the paths of Kyle Mosiuk and Nataya Nolan have crossed\, and the result is a rare and special rendering of song and soul: True Blue. Individually\, each can arrest their audience\, but together\, they are a new force unlike anything we’ve heard for some time. Drawing from the music that influenced them as children\, this new duo blends Folk music with the soulful sounds of the Blues and a Pop sensibility. Authentic\, vulnerable\, original\, raw\, polished\, and passionate\, these two are the real deal\, the true servants of song!  \n\n\n\n\n\nTickets on sale March 11 via Tix on the Square \n\n\n\nSuzie UngerleiderTrue Blue
