SUMMARY:Bentall Taylor Ulrich – SOLD OUT
DESCRIPTION:Show starts at 8pm\, Doors open at 7pm \n\n\n\nBarney Bentall\, Tom Taylor and Shari Ulrich – Bentall Taylor Ulrich – first played together in 2007 on Bowen Island\, BC.  Their continued collaboration grew from the undeniable enjoyment for both the artists and their audiences. One year later they returned to record Live at Cates Hill – an eclectic mix of the character\, voices and songwriting talents of these three unique artists.  With juggling their respective projects it took until 2015 to record a second album.  They set up camp in Barney’s home and “Tightrope Walk” was released in 2016.  With three very busy schedules to coordinate\, the trio manages a couple of tours a year and relishes the collaboration and camaraderie – and music! \n\n\n\nUnfortunately the Mavens are unable to perform as originally scheduled. \n\n\n\n\n\nBentall Taylor Ulrich

SUMMARY:The Travelling Mabels
DESCRIPTION:Show starts at 8pm\, Doors open at 7pm \n\n\n\nEva Levesque\, Lana Floen\, Therry Lawson and Keith Floen are The Travelling Mabels. This ACMA award winning folk/country group from southern Alberta has brought their own unique brand of harmony\, musicianship and down home humour to Canadian audiences from coast to coast for more than a decade. As an ardent fan once humorously stated “If the Eagles and the Trio (Dolly Parton\, Linda Ronstadt and Emmylou Harris) were a family\, then surely their children would be The Travelling Mabels.” \n\n\n\n\n\nThe Travelling Mabels

SUMMARY:Women of Folkways
DESCRIPTION:Show starts at 8pm\, Doors open at 7pm \n\n\n\nA co-presentation with Winter Roots Roundup (U of A Sound Studies)\, the Women of Folkways concert is a celebration by women of women in the Folkways Records catalogue. \n\n\n\nThe Women of Folkways concert has become a beloved annual tradition\, and this year we’re digging a little deeper in the eclectic record catalogue that inspired it. Local luminaries Mallory Chipman\, Audrey Ochoa\, Shima Robinson (Dwennimmen)\, and host Dana Wylie will highlight some often overlooked corners of the Folkways Records collection\, telling some of its lesser-known stories and featuring the work of women in jazz\, spoken word\, ethnomusicology\, zoomusicology\, and of course…there’ll be plenty of folk!  \n\n\n\n\n\nMallory Chipman\n\n\n\nAudrey Ochoa\n\n\n\nShima Robinson\n\n\n\nDana Wylie

SUMMARY:Old Man Luedecke
DESCRIPTION:Show starts at 8pm\, Doors open at 7pm \n\n\n\nOld Man Luedecke is the recording and performing name of Christopher Luedecke whom Vancouver Folk Festival described as “…a musical singularity to be savoured and shared.” Born and raised in Toronto\, Luedecke followed Thoreauvian and romantic notions to Canada’s Yukon\, where he fell in love and started composing folk songs with a Banjo. He’s a two time JUNO and multi East Coast Music award-winner\, and Polaris Prize nominee now residing in Chester\, Nova Scotia. Luedecke delights audiences with his heart-felt command of the stage. His inspired banjo playing and wry storytelling cut to the heart of the normal\, extraordinary experience itself. \n\n\n\n\n\nOld Man Luedecke

SUMMARY:Cassie and Maggie + John Hewitt
DESCRIPTION:Show starts at 8pm\, Doors open at 7pm \n\n\n\nNova Scotian sisters Cassie and Maggie have been lighting up the world with their unique blend of traditional and contemporary Celtic instrumentals and vocals. SUMMARY:John Wort Hannam - SOLD OUT
DESCRIPTION:Show starts at 8pm\, Doors open at 7pm \n\n\n\nIn 2001\, roots/folk musician John Wort Hannam quit his teaching job and spent 10 months depleting his savings while sitting at his kitchen table\, wearing a lucky hat\, and writing his first ten songs. Twenty one years later\, there are a few feathers in that lucky hat\, including a JUNO nomination and a Canadian Folk Music Award for Best Album of the Year. These days John Wort Hannam has the same lucky hat but a new sound\, a new band\, a new confidence\, and a ton of new songs – and a trio of new Canadian Folk Music Award nominations! \n\n\n\n\n\nJohn Wort Hannam

SUMMARY:Scott Cook & The Second Chances - SOLD OUT
DESCRIPTION:Show starts at 8pm\, Doors open at 7pm \n\n\n\nAlberta Troubadour\, Scott Cook toured almost incessantly across Canada\, the US\, Europe\, Asia\, Australia\, New Zealand\, and elsewhere from 2007 until 2020\, when the pandemic made living in a van less appealing. While averaging 150 shows and a dozen summer festivals every year\, he also managed to release seven albums of plainspoken\, keenly observant verse along the way. In 2022\, he’s back on the road touring his newest album\, Tangle of Souls across North America\, believing more than ever that songs can change your life\, and your life can change the world. \n\n\n\n\n\nScott Cook

SUMMARY:Braden Gates + Matt Patershuk
DESCRIPTION:Show starts at 8pm\, Doors open at 7pm \n\n\n\nBraden Gates is surprising; immediately engaging\, he quiets rooms with his prolific songwriting and musicianship. His latest album\, Kitchen Days won the 2022 Canadian Folk Music Award for Traditional Album of the Year. He is witty\, charming\, and unexpected. If you’ve never seen him\, you should\, and if you have\, you’ve likely already bought your ticket. \n\n\n\nMatt Patershuk is a singer and songwriter who values simplicity\, but also loves to incorporate the small details that bring a story to life and make it relatable. Though his songs aren’t devoid of metaphor\, you’ll not be left guessing about what the song is about when you’re done listening. He never lets a lack of experience or formal training get in his way. He applies the same ethic to his self-taught songwriting and music as he does to fixing a furnace\, installing a stock waterer\, building a jewelry box\, or taking a picture. He loves words as much as he does music. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nBraden Gates\n\n\n\nMatt Patershuk

SUMMARY:CANCELLED: Pharis & Jason Romero
DESCRIPTION:Due to a COVID infection in the Romero household\, this date has been cancelled. Refunds can be obtained through TixOnTheSquare – please contact them. Season ticket holders will be contacted directly. We aim to reschedule Pharis & Jason Romero for a date in the future – stay tuned. \n\n\n\nThey’re nice people who play folk music. One of them laughs a lot\, and one of them is a bit mysterious. They’ve played a lot of places\, won six CFMAs and three Junos\, and taught a lot of people. They have two great kids and a house in the woods. Pharis & Jason Romero have been quietly connecting with audiences since their first record release in 2011. They started out together playing mostly traditional music – banjo\, guitar\, and sometimes fiddle – in an early old-time trio. Over the years they’ve moved their original songwriting and nuanced singing into the forefront\, and audiences have embraced their intelligent songs\, the sounds of their instruments and their clear approach to being two people while singing like one. \n\n\n\n\n\nPharis and Jason Romero

SUMMARY:T. Buckley
DESCRIPTION:Show starts at 8pm\, Doors open at 7pm\n\n\n\nMarriage\, fatherhood\, and a solid music career could have engendered complacency; instead T. Buckley investigates these transformations from the older\, wiser position he now occupies. His 2018 album\, Miles We Put Behind\, was a collection of mature\, introspective songs\, interrogating what it means to be a husband\, father\, and most importantly\, a keen observer of the world around him. He’s followed that up with Frame by Frame\, a slideshow of songs shaped by his past\, and optimistic for the future. Buckley’s new approach to roots and country music has made him an inter-generational favourite. \n\n\n\n\n\nTickets on sale March 11 via Tix on the Square \n\n\n\nIf you purchased tickets for the originally scheduled January 29th show\, they will be accepted at the April 2nd show. Or\, you have until 5:00 p.m. on April 1 to request a refund from Tix on the Square. \n\n\n\nT. SUMMARY:Suzie Ungerleider + True Blue
DESCRIPTION:Show starts at 8pm\, Doors open at 7pm\n\n\n\nFormerly known as Oh Susanna\, Suzie Ungerleider has evolved from an artist who wrote melodies inspired by Americana\, to writing songs that allow her to look closely at who she was before she took on that persona. Suzie now realizes that the character who gave her the courage to climb onstage and reveal what is in her heart is no longer needed; she is now sharing the music that is inside of her and not that of an alter ego. Perhaps she is leaving the character behind\, but Suzie Ungerleider remains an exciting\, dark\, funny\, charming performer who weaves magic with the music that she makes. \n\n\n\nEmerging from the melting pot of Edmonton’s music scene\, the paths of Kyle Mosiuk and Nataya Nolan have crossed\, and the result is a rare and special rendering of song and soul: True Blue. Individually\, each can arrest their audience\, but together\, they are a new force unlike anything we’ve heard for some time. Drawing from the music that influenced them as children\, this new duo blends Folk music with the soulful sounds of the Blues and a Pop sensibility. Authentic\, vulnerable\, original\, raw\, polished\, and passionate\, these two are the real deal\, the true servants of song!  \n\n\n\n\n\nTickets on sale March 11 via Tix on the Square \n\n\n\nSuzie UngerleiderTrue Blue
